Reports say the barrier around the City is breaking in places. Mostly at the perimeters of the island itself. People, myself included, doubt that what we see beyond it can be anything good or believable - especially when it shows us something like home.

But I live in the City proper and there's a rip in the barrier in my apartment.

I've gone home before. I know what it looks like. This feels right.

... I didn't push that button to make the trade, but it looks like I didn't have to, after all.

[A long, breathless pause; Holly doesn't know what to say.]

Three years here and I finally started to think this place felt like... like a home. [Quite chuckle.] That probably means it's time to go.

I think this might be it.

[ooc; This departure post will be open to comments as long as they keep on coming. Make your goodbyes if you so wish! Holly will miss this place and all of you.]

Obviously a part of me wants to press it. Sometimes being here for so long makes an elf desperate. Three years and the chance to go home? Who wouldn't? But I don't...

[sigh.]

Can't leave Artemis. Or the police. Sometimes I wonder if this place has become just as much a home to me as Ireland. Maybe that's enough of a warning sign that I should leave while I still can.

[a long, long pause; she's staring the box. When she speaks again, it's a very low murmur.]

But even so, I don't think I could have any of this hanging over me.

[And yet, something in Holly's tone suggests that she's uncertain.]

[ PUBLIC: ]

... I wonder what would happen if I shot that blasted box.

Before I can change my mind.

With the curse over the past two days, I almost forgot.

Three years.

[A long silence, obviously she doesn't realise she's recording. A heavy, frustrated sigh.]

Three—since Monday.

[Another pause, then a dull thud, a punch thrown against the wall.]

... d'Arvit.

Some things never change about this place.

But over the years, this one has become a favourite. I admit it.

[ooc; may be slow and/or very delayed with replies because I still haven't resolved the computer thing yet. Using roommate's. Pretty much anything goes with 4th walling Holly (except telling her she's from a book), and old friends are always welcome!]

[ POLICE FILTER // UNHACKABLE ]

Before any of you say it, yes, I am aware it's about time this was called to proper attention.

We as a force are currently acting without a chief of police and without a warden and no one to promote to either position, as Lieutenant Hawkeye has left too.

Obviously, this does not mean we can slack off on what we've volunteered to do and I know none of us have. There are still murders to be solved and I know we're all doing our best despite the unexpected need to reorganise.

Until we elect a new chief of police, the best thing to do in the meantime is to have officers report to their division heads, as they have always done. And if there is anything bigger than the individual departments can handle, then we as heads will have to meet together and work from there.

Now ...

Frond, here we go.

Abby Scuito - Head of Forensics - has nominated me to take the position left by Colonel Mustang, in the event that Hiro Nakamura does not return to the City or does, but doesn't wish to do it. I think the best way to do this is to have a vote. I know our situation is tight but that is no reason to force anything or anyone on the entirety of the Police Force. Nominations for a new Chief of Police are open.

And for those of you who don't know me, I'm Captain Holly Short, current Head of the Intel division. If you have any questions about my qualifications, feel free to ask.

Is that it?

... Thanks, everyone. You're doing really well, despite the situation. Keep up the good work.

Ladies and gentlemen, breakfast. Ignore the cliché! I did make a promise.

Besides, I think we all need it after the week we have had. Though I’m aware our problems are far from over.

[ POLICE FILTER // unhackable ]

We all know what happened to the prison and those in it. As if we didn't have enough on our plate, Colonel Mustang has left the City—and that leaves us without a Head of Police.

[ /end filter. ]

Looks like I'll have to get used to walking, since my wings and suit are indefinitely out of commission. There are worse things.

[ooc; Also! May or may not be affected by today's curse. If she is, it'll show up in comments. ♥ ]

[ video ]

[The visual feed crackles to life, the image blurry at first before it sharpens, although the lens is cracked. The angle is awkward, half-buried in sand, but right in front of it is Holly Short, pushing herself up from the surf as she spits the salty sea and sand from her mouth, wipes over it with the back of her hand. Very lady-like.

The tips of her auburn hair are singed, her dark complexion smeared with blast residue but she is entirely unharmed - because healing magic is great like that. The same, however, cannot be said for her torn suit and especially her wings, the mechanical marvel hanging brokenly from her shoulders because it bore the brunt of the explosion.

Captain Short notices the damage as well and swears loudly and viciously in Gnommish. Only a few seconds later does she notice she is being recorded and she strides over to her helmet, picks it up, her mismatched eyes of blue and hazel narrowed with irritation at the camera.]

If someone could pick me up, that would be very helpful. I can't fly back. Obviously.

[Holly looks away from the camera for a moment, annoyed, then sighs and glances back.]

Apart from that? Yes, I am perfectly fine.

... And Artemis, I'm counting on that genius brain of yours to fix my equipment.

[The video feed is a little awkward, the elf's helmet settled on the grass in the forest. The only light comes from the full moon overhead and it illuminates Holly, who is kneeling close by and scooping a shallow hole into the earth with one bare hand. The other is folded gingerly against her chest, shoulder still healing from that reopened injury earlier in the month, but clutching something. Holly pauses, mutters under her breath.]

That should do it.

[Then the captain takes a breath and uncurls the injured arm so she can plant that acorn, murmuring softly in Gnommish: I return you to the earth and claim the gift that is my right.

... nothing. Silence. And then an eruption of blue sparks of magic and the elf arches back as it cocoons her.]

[The recording jumps, technology flickering due to its proximity to the magic. And then the feed dies.]

[ooc; First glimpse of what the Ritual looks like! Holly's getting her magic back because it's a full moon. So she FINALLY gets to heal that shoulder and stop being so cranky about it. Comments are welcome but all replies from Holly are post-healing so assume a slight delay at first. And no, she did not realise this was recording.

Also, awkward comic!Holly image is awkward. Sorry. >____>]

I don't care if I can't use it yet. Damned shoulder.

You do not mess with my wing rig.

Steam-operated! Honestly. How medieval.

Another attack.

I'm not sure what the count is at the moment, but it is definitely more than five, counting myself. Some victims or those close to them might not have made posts to the Network but we need to get their names and quickly. I want to know if there have been any deaths.

Please refer to the Colonel's recent entry if you haven't already.

Thanks, guys.

Something tells me there is a curse happening today.

It's early, sure—but the streets are never this empty. There are enough of us who are nocturnal to make certain of that. The entries on the network are another great hint.

So I guess if you're affected and you can see this: calm down, people. You're not the only ones. Wait until midnight, as usual.

[ooc; Actually, not affected! But I figure enough people (PCs and NPCs) get affected that there's a noticeable drop in the population on a curse like this. |D]

You know, I kind of wish I was affected on Sunday. My father was great, and sometimes I don't think I told him enough. Sixty years with him doesn't sound short to most people, but it definitely was to me. And my mother died a few years after him.

But the weekend was definitely... exciting enough without a curse, now that I think about it.

On a related topic, does the hospital actually have security?

Did anyone actually see the thing that crashed into the Square? I know no one would willingly go anywhere near that foul smoke but I thought I should ask.

Because whatever it was, it looks like it disintegrated in the air. There's nothing at the point of impact.

What the hell?

This sword is twice my height! How do they expect me to do my job when I can't even lift my weapon? [the dull clank of a sword against wood] Ridiculous.
